100% Rider Brett Metcalfe will contest the Canadian Motocross Nationals this summer aboard his new Monster Energy backed Leading Edge Kawasaki.

The seasoned veteran hailing from Australia is one of the hardest-working men in motocross. Brett began his pro career in his home country by racing in the Australian Supercross series in 2001 before heading overseas in 2002 to compete in the MX2 class of the World Motocross GP series.

Metcalfe made the move to America to race Supercross and Motocross in 2003. Brett claimed several podium positions and had top-five season finishes several times while riding for Red Bull KTM, Yamaha of Troy, GEICO Powersports and Pro Circuit in the Lites class. Metty had a standout year in 2005 which included winning the U.S. Open of Supercross. In 2011 Metcalfe joined the Factory Suzuki team alongside Ryan Dungey on the RMZ 450. He went on to finish in 4th overall in the Lucas Oil Motocross 450 that year and claimed his first overall victory at Southwick.

Overcoming injuries that sidelined him for the better part of 2012, Metcalfe is ready for the new season and will set his sights on the Canadian Motocross Nationals this summer. He will be riding a Monster Energy backed Kawasaki KXF 450 for the Leading Edge Kawasaki team based in Kamloops, British Columbia. Brett joins teammates Tyler Villopoto, Teddy Maier, and Austin Politelli. The team will ride out of the Kamloops, British Columbia race shop and race the nine round outdoor series. The season starts June 2nd.

100% is proud to support Metcalfe and the Leading Edge Kawaski team. Watch for Metty in his new 100% goggles this weekend at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championships at Hangtown.

We’d like to congratulate Marvin Musquin on an outstanding season in the 250 SX East Coast Series!

Musquin, the two-time MX2 World Champion, came to the United States to contest the SX and MX series and finished third overall in the 2012 East Coast 250 class in his rookie season.

Marvin came into the 2013 season very strong as a title contender. Through the nine race series he claimed six podium positions, four of which were wins. Additionally, Musquin finished third in the East vs. West Shootout in Las Vegas.

Musquin on the podium in Las Vegas

Not only did Musquin ride extremely well all season, his effort in the final race in Vegas pushing for the championship really demonstrates what giving 100% is all about. He narrowly missed the title, but finished a career best in the runner up position for the 250 SX East Coast Title.

Marvin falls just short of the win in Vegas for the championship. You can see Bowers wheel just in front of him. Photo: Vurb Moto

Musquin now has his sights set on the upcoming Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship which kicks off at Hangtown May 18th.

Congratulations on a great season, Marvin!

Round 6 of the FIM MX world championship has seen Kawasaki Racing’s, Gautier Paulin, claim his second consecutive MX1 GP victory at a sunny Agueda circuit in Portugal.

Having claimed his first GP of the season in Bulgaria at the previous round, Paulin was confident coming into the event. He qualified second in the Saturday qualification race behind last year’s winner, Clement Desalle and had a good gate pick for the first MX1 moto. Cairoli grabbed the hole-shot with Paulin quickly moving into second place. He trailed the current points leader and then made a great move on lap 5 to take over the lead. With Cairoli and Desalle giving chase Paulin set a fast pace and handled the pressure from Cairoli very well. With two laps to go Cairoli made a mistake and Paulin cruised to the moto win.

Once again, Cairloi grabbed the hole-shot with Paulin sneaking up the inside of the first turn in moto 2. He passed team-mate Jeremy Van Horebeek for second and then gave chase to Cairoli. Desalle joined the duo and a three way battle ensued. With two laps to go Desalle had a huge crash while trying to make a move on Paulin. With the overall victory in the bag, Paulin crossed the finish line in second to claim his first set of back to back MX GP victories.

“It’s been a great result today and I’m really happy with my second MX1 victory and being able to battle with Cairoli. I feel I still have some room to improve and we are continuing to work hard with the team who are supporting me in every way possible. I want to continue with these results and be fighting for the victory at every GP. “ said Gautier Paulin

Valentin was back this weekend to the GP’s, alongside Dylan Ferrandis for the fifth round of the series on the fast hillside track on the outskirts of Sevlievo. They qualified in ninth (Dylan) and eleventh (Valentin) position on Saturday, and both were surprised on Sunday morning to do the warm up on a wet track after intense watering from the organizers.

Valentin Teillet made an heroic return from injury in Bulgaria to finish an astounding third in the opening moto; fourth at the start, Valentin did a perfect race and passed Butron in the eight lap to secure a fantastic third position behind Herlings and Tixier. His second start was again very good, and he advanced to sixth in the early stages of race before being forced to withdraw with a painful shoulder after a crash. He finish tenth overall of the event.

His young teammate Dylan Ferrandis had been most unfortunate in the first moto as he slipped to the ground in the hectic first turn when he was second, but he fought relentlessly to the chequered flag to finish nineteenth. He then reaped his just rewards in race two with an impressive ride from an initial twelfth to finish ninth. Next GP round in two weeks at Agueda (Portugal) after a French elite championship event this week-end in Villars sous Ecot.

“On Saturday it was pretty tough as my shoulder is not so strong, so I was satisfied with eleventh in the qualification. I felt better today, and in the first race I got a good start and then could keep my rhythm to finish third; that’s a great reward for my work with Jacky Vimond. I was in sixth position in the second race but I crashed on a downhill, I not quite sure what happened but I lost too much time to get back on the track to continue with the race. I will go to the doctors for them to look at my shoulder again this week as I never felt confident with it all weekend, and I want to understand why.” said Valentin Teillet.

“I lost so much time with the crash at the first start that it was difficult to come back, but the second moto was much better. I feel that my speed is coming back, but I must get better starts and stay focused during the entire forty minutes. I will continue to work hard together with the team to get back to my best form; it is less than two months since I was able to start riding my bike again.” said Dylan Ferrandis.

This didn’t destabilize the team riders as Mick qualified 1st with Fabien not far back in 7th. In the finals, Mick came 5th after being beaten by Steve Peat in quarter finals. Fabien came in 10th.

Holly chose not to race the Dual as she preferred to keep her energy for the Downhill. That paid off as she got an amazing 5th place only 5 seconds off the winner Jill Kintner! She was up on the elite podium with 4 world champions so she was really stoked with that because she is still 17 and in the Junior category.

The boys also had some incredible runs with Fabien getting 16th in front of quite a lot of usually top ranked world cup racers. Mick had an insane run beating the tough time Cameron Cole had set. And it wasn’t until Aaron Gwin came through the finish line that his time was beaten. The thinnest of margins separated both racers with less than 0.01 seconds!! The top five riders were all within the same second!

The whole team is really happy for all the racing and would like to thank all their sponsors but most specifically Hutchinson for allowing them to use their booth as a chill area and for the mechanics. But also The Hive / E-Thirteen for their precious help at Petaluma. Thanks a lot!

Next up for the team is the AvalancheCup of Lyon for Fabien and Guillaume. Holly and Fabien will BDS race in Fort William and then the team camp will be in the South of France end of May before heading off to the World Cups.

Australian MX talent, Dean Ferris, has completed round 5 of the 17 round FIM MX2 world championship in 8th overall at the Bulgarian MX GP in Sevlievo.

The Monster Energy Yamaha racer, suffered a first moto tip over which lost him valuable positions in the opening stages of the race. He fought hard to break into the top 10 but was a little disappointed with the result after lying in 5 place before the incident.

A difficult start in moto two left Ferris with a lot of chasing to do but he quickly cut through the field and was just outside the top 10 on the opening lap. Finding his way past local favorite, Peter Petrov and he latched onto fellow Yamaha rider Christophe Charlier who had made a remarkable come back after getting stuck in the gate. The Yamaha duo climbed the ladder, disposing of fast starter Jose Butron around the halfway point with Ferris settling into 6th position to secure valuable championship points.

“I actually struggled this weekend with the track and just couldn’t put in the fast times that I should have. I had 19th gate pick which was not ideal but still managed to grab a good start in moto 1. Second moto my start was not there and I had to work hard to come through – I should have pushed through to the group of guys ahead me but they were just out of reach. I’m looking forward to this week off which will give me some more recovery time on the collarbone and enable me to build some more strength in the shoulder.” said Dean Ferris.

Ferris will welcome a week’s break before heading to Agueda, Portugal for round 6 on the 4-5 May.

Gautier Paulin has dominated round 5 of the FIM MX world championship held at the Gorna Rositza circuit in Sevlievo, Bulgaria. The Kawasaki Racing Team rider, backed up his 2012 Bulgarian GP laurels by going 1-2 and overshadowing his competitors in the qualification timing and races for his first pole position of the 2013 season.

A lite overnight rain and watering of the circuit offered a tacky but gripping circuit and having the inside starting gate saw Paulin take advantage of the a tight line in the first turn to emerge in front for the 35 min + 2 lap race. The Frenchman controlled the lead from start to finish setting fast consistent lap times and took the victory with Belgian’s Kevin Strijbos and Clement Desalle in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Another great move in the first turn for moto 2 rocketed Paulin into the lead after he went neck and neck with Antonio Cairoli into the fast ski jump before he passed the reigning world champ before the first uphill section. Cairoli quickly latched on to his challenger and 4 laps later was able to pick a great inside line after the finish line to surprise Paulin and take the lead. The two challenges pulled a gap on the rest of the pack with Paulin always within 2 seconds of Cairoli, waiting for the Italian to make a mistake. With 1 lap to go Cairoli secured victory however Paulin claimed the overall and his first GP win of the 2013 MX championship and has jumped to second in the MX1 championship standings.

“It was a very good weekend, and it was great to race with Antonio as it was difficult to accept to see him winning so many races. I had a great feeling with the track and my bike since the first practice session, and today I got two good starts. I got the hole-shot in the first heat and won it, then in the second Antonio won but I learned a lot racing with him. It’s great to win a GP, the first one for me this season – I got four podiums including one GP win in the first five GP’s, that’s pretty good. We worked a lot with the team, we know what we have to improve, and I want to thank all the people who are working with me.” said Gautier Paulin.

Round 6 of the 17 round series will take place on the 4-5 March at the Agueda Circuit. Paulin will be looking to improve on this second overall from last year where he went head to head with Cairoli in moto 2 to take the victory.

Rockstar Bud Racing Kawasaki’s Dylan Ferrandis snatched sixth place in the fourth round of the FIM MX2 Motocross World Championship at Arco di Trento in northern Italy. It was his best result so far this season, and Dylan will approach the next GPs confident as he has no more troubles with his broken finger.

The French teenager has been handicapped by a broken finger through the early rounds of the series but showed his resilience to bounce back dramatically at the stony switchback track in the northern Italian province of Trentino. Forced to retire in the qualifying race as a race incident damaged his bike, Dylan got two pretty good starts and two strong finishes were sufficient to place Dylan sixth overall on the day.

The Bud Racing staff and Valentin Teillet decided not to ride in this GP, following doctor’s instructions, as the shoulder he damaged last month needed some more rest. He will have further exams early this week, and expect to be back this week-end in Bulgaria.

The team will head up to Sevlievo (Bulgaria) for the fifth round of the series, next weekend.

“On Saturday I had a great start in the qualifying race and I was fifth when the engine stopped with electrical problems, probably the consequence of a collision with Charlier. I was last on the grid, but my first start was good as I was seventh; I even moved forward to sixth but then I suffered some arm pump and had to drop back to eighth. My second start was even better but I was at the outside at the first corner and finally left turn two in fifteenth place. I had a good rhythm in this race and came back to the front places. I’m happy as I have no more problems with my broken finger and got my first good result of the season with a sixth position on the day” said Dylan Ferrandis.

“Dylan improved his results each weekend and that’s great, he got a sixth place here in Italy and show that he is soon back to his best level. He was unfortunate during the qualifying race but did pretty good starts, he is close to the top five which his our goal; he doesn’t take too much risks and is going faster every week. Concerning Valentin he had pain in his shoulder after Lacapelle Elite; the exams confirmed that nothing is broken but it was better to rest a few days according to the doctors to come back 100% faster.” Stephane Dassé.
